How can I get email without going to Lakenet.ca?

Enable POP in Lakenet Webmail(lakenet.ca). Don't forget to click Save Changes when you're done.

  1. Configure your client to match the settings below:
  2. Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL: pop.gmail.com
    Use SSL: Yes
    Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com
    (use authentication)
    Use Authentication: Yes
    Use STARTTLS: Yes
    (some clients call this SSL)
    Port: 465

    How does the service work?
Lakesidebroadband Wireless Internet Service is a high-speed (two-way) symmetrical service that uses radio frequency (RF) waves to move the data. The entire network meets or surpasses all Industry Canada (ICAN) safety standards in place today. We use 900mhz, 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz license exempt equipment to transmit our signals. It is a near-line-of-sight system that has a coverage area of up to 20 Kilometres from the broadcast tower.
The system operates in an "always on mode" and there is no time limit on the service. Because the system is "always on" it is recommend that you get a firewall for your household.
The system would most likely have an antennae installed on your house/property/building and would be connected to a modem internally that is attached to your computer.

How far does the service work from the tower?
You must be within a 20 km radius from the tower to receive our wireless service. This service depends on near line of sight and special requirements pertaining to visibility with one of our towers.

    What is meant by Near-Line-of-Sight(NLOS)?
Near-Line-of-Sight means our installers must be able to go on top of your roof or building and be able to spot a general path to the tower in your area.

How do I know if I am close enough or have visibility?
To find out the status of your possibility of service, contact our office and a technician will be able to assess that based on a few simple questions. The service range is up to 20Km from each tower.

How long do I have to wait before an installer will come out?
Upon application for an install, it could take place within 5-10 buisness days. *Please note that this period is dependent on current workloads, and there may be longer delays due to high demand.

How long does it take for an installation?
    Usually about 2-3 hours

Is there a charge for the site survey?
Site surveys are only rarely needed and are usually performed at time of installation. There is no extra charge for the survey.

What if I move to another location? Can I keep my lakesidebroadband Wireless active?
If you move to a new location, we can conduct another site survey to see if you are able to subscribe. In the event you are, there may be a service install charge that will apply to get you reconnected.

Can I get TV service with my Wireless Internet as well?
Sorry. Not at this time. Our service is good for high-speed Wireless Internet only.

How fast is the service compared to Dial-up?
The service is VERY fast and depending on the setup can be up to 20x faster than dialup. You can compare the wireless service to a fast DSL connection with speeds up to 1MB on residential connections, and up to 20MB on business connections.

Can I connect several computers to the one wireless connection?
Yes. Depending on the setup, you can add the wireless connection to a network and share the connection on your local premise.

When I'm online can I use my phone?
    Yes.

What do you get with the service?
The package includes unlimited time online and up to 5 emails. The service comes with one dynamic IP.

Can I pay extra to have a Static IP instead of a Dynamic IP?
Yes you can. Static IP's are now available to residential clients for a small monthly fee. For specific details, please contact us.

    Is there an installation charge?
Yes. To have one of our technicians install the modem and antennae for you at your home there is a charge of $275**.

Is there a self install option?
No. Because aligning equipment takes a lakesidebroadband technician, and because the equipment has to be programmed specifically for this system, there is no room for self-installation.

If I were to sign up for lakesidebroadband wireless access, must I rent or buy a lakesidebroadband modem?
To help make our services more efficient, and to save our customers money, lakesidebroadband owns all of the equipment in the set-up right until the router(which you can choose to rent, buy or not use one). This means that the replacement of any hardware is free of charge to our customer***

**Regular set-up fee with a one year contract.  This may not include over 50ft of cable and/or more than 15 ft of height.
***lakesidebroadband will not replace equipment that has been tampered with or misused.
